DEARBORN, Mich. – Senior Melania Skamiera got the Wolverines off to a quick start with a goal 2:41 into the game, but Indiana Tech did all the scoring the rest of the way for a 3-1 victory Saturday (Sept. 25) at Charles Jestice Field.

Skamiera, a defender from New Boston Huron High, beat Warriors goalie Karminna Gaytan for the 1-0 lead.

"It was from pure hard work – pressing, winning the ball and finishing your opportunity," University of Michigan-Dearborn coach Danielle Toney said of the unassisted goal.

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opener for both teams was tied at the half, and Indiana Tech graduate student Bailey Elliott put the game away with two second-half goals.

"We were focused," said Toney. "We just have to continue working on our speed of play and finishing our opportunities."

The Wolverines (1-2, 0-1 WHAC) had 10 shots in the game, while Indiana Tech (5-3, 1-0) took 16. Emmi Pinkowski took three shots for UM-Dearborn.

Gaytan made four saves, and Wolverine goalie Amber Festian had seven saves.
