Wolverines Sweep Cardinals

ANN ARBOR, Mich.  The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team put on an offensive show on the road, securing a 10-5 victory over Concordia (MI) in an action-packed game at the Arctic Coliseum in Ann Arbor.

The victory improves Michigan-Dearborn's record to 12-13-1 overall and 11-5-1 in conference play. Concordia (MI) falls to 5-18-1, with a 2-15-0 record in league play.

Concordia struck first in the opening period, taking a 1-0 lead at 6:14 when Jackson Blough scored unassisted. However, Michigan-Dearborn responded quickly with a power-play goal at 11:02, as Caleb Cathcart netted his first of the game with assists from Ryan Stanley and Bailey Byrd. The Wolverines took control late in the period, with Byrd scoring at 16:38 to give Michigan-Dearborn a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

The second period featured a flurry of goals as both teams found the back of the net with regularity. Michigan-Dearborn extended its lead early, with Cathcart scoring again at 4:27, assisted by Justin Renzi. Just 37 seconds later, Joey Cibor added another, making it 4-1 for the visitors.

However, Concordia responded with two quick goals of its own. Ethan Lindle scored at 6:39, followed by Kolton Horn's tally at 7:51, which tied the game at 4-4. But Michigan-Dearborn regained control midway through the period. At 8:32, Zak Januszkowski found the net with assists from Cibor and Jake Emery, putting the Wolverines back in front, 5-4. Concordia responded again when Lindle scored unassisted at 9:40, knotting the score at 5-5.

Michigan-Dearborn would finish the period strong, with Cathcart completing his hat trick at 17:06, scoring his third of the game with help from Renzi and Will Barrett to make it 6-5 after two periods of play.

The final frame was all Michigan-Dearborn, as the team dominated both offensively and defensively. The Wolverines struck early in the third period with two shorthanded goals. Cathcart completed his remarkable performance with a shorthanded goal at 19 seconds, assisted by Stanley and Blake Petterle. Just over three minutes later, Byrd added another shorthanded goal, this time assisted by Cathcart, making it 8-5.

Concordia had no answer to Michigan-Dearborn's offensive barrage. The Wolverines continued to press, and Cibor added an unassisted goal at 9:53 to further extend the lead to 9-5. Januszkowski capped the scoring at 15:34, converting on a power play with help from Stanley, bringing the final score to 10-5.
