LIVONIA, Mich. -- In the CCWHA Tournament Semifinals, the University of Michigan-Dearborn women's ice hockey team triumphed over Miami (OH) with a 1-0 victory at Eddie Edgar Arena on Saturday (Feb. 22). The game was tightly contested, but a power-play goal by Taylor Spence at 3:47 of the first period, assisted by Grace Adriaanse and Andi Evers, proved to be the only scoring play of the match.
Miami (OH), despite putting up 26 shots on goal, couldn't break through UM-Dearborn's defense or goalie Kenna Borso, who turned away all attempts to secure the shutout with 26 saves. Borso's 26-save performance marks her third consecutive shutout for the Maize & Blue.
Miami (OH) had a few power-play opportunities but could not capitalize, finishing 0-for-4 on the power play. UM-Dearborn also had limited chances on the man advantage, going 1-for-1.
The game was relatively clean, with both teams minimizing penalties. UM-Dearborn spent eight minutes in the penalty box, while Miami (OH) served four minutes.
Taylor Spence's game-winning goal earned her recognition as one of the key performers for UM-Dearborn. Borso's hot streak in net also made her one of the game's stars.
With the win, UM-Dearborn advances to the finals tomorrow, taking on Adrian College at 3:30 pm.
