SYLVANIA, Ohio – The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team saw its 2025 campaign come to a close on Wednesday (Apr. 30) at the WHAC Tournament, falling in two hard-fought matchups against top-seeded Madonna University and Concordia University Ann Arbor.
In the opening round, the Wolverines (13-21-1, 10-12-1 WHAC) faced off against WHAC regular-season champion Madonna (41-6, 24-0 WHAC), ultimately dropping a 9-4 decision. Senior Lindsay Marlewitz provided a highlight for UM-Dearborn with a two-run home run in the second inning to tie the game at 2-2. Kendyl Gearhart added an RBI single in the sixth and finished 2-for-3 with a run scored, while freshman Ava Craft and Katrina Caldwell each contributed a double.
Despite the offensive push, the Crusaders pulled away behind a three-run fourth inning and a late home run from Mackenzie Ming that extended the lead. On the mound, Brooklynn Jones started the game before giving way to Sydni Uhlenberg, who battled through 5.1 innings of relief work.
In an elimination game later that afternoon, the Wolverines matched up with local WHAC rival Concordia (MI). Craft once again delivered at the plate, driving in UM-Dearborn's lone run in the fourth inning with a sharp RBI single that scored Braylin Grueter. Craft led the team with a 2-for-3 performance, including a double.
In the circle, Hannah Koch struck out five in 4.2 innings, but Concordia's Katie Tobias proved the difference-maker, launching two two-run home runs—one each in the third and fifth innings—to lead the Cardinals to a 4-1 win.
While the tournament results weren't what the Wolverines hoped for, the team showed fight and resilience against two of the WHAC's strongest squads. The effort from veterans like Marlewitz and Gearhart, along with contributions from younger players such as Craft and Jones, offer a strong foundation heading into next season.
UM-Dearborn concludes the 2025 season with a 13-21-1 overall record and a 10-12-1 mark in conference play,
