O'FALLON, Ill. -- In an intense non-conference battle, the No. 9 University of Michigan-Dearborn women's ice hockey team fell to the No. 4 McKendree Bearcats with a final score of 3-1. Despite a solid defensive play across the first two periods, the Wolverines couldn't overcome the Bearcats' late-game surge.
The Wolverines, who kept the score level at 0-0 after the first period, found themselves trailing after the second period with a score of 0-1. The critical moments unfolded in the third period, where each team escalated their offensive efforts. Grace Adriaanse notably scored her first collegiate goal for UM-Dearborn at 04:22, highlighting the period. Unfortunately for UM-Dearborn, McKendree answered back with decisive goals from Kiley Hasenfratz, Kendra Shumaker, and the game-winner by Julia Koski.
Despite the loss, the Wolverines received commendable performances from their players, including goalie Kenna Borso. Adriaanse's debut goal was particularly significant, contributing to the lone goal for UM-Dearborn.
UM-Dearborn Wolverines are set to face off in their next game on Saturday (Oct. 19) against Lindenwood seeking to rebound from this setback.
