Wolverines Drop Crucial Doubleheader Against Lourdes

SYLVANIA, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team began their final week of regular season games on Thursday (Apr. 18) as they took on the Lourdes Gray Wolves at Gray Wolf Field. The Wolverines lost both games in the doubleheader.

The Gray Wolves piled it on early, taking an 8-0 lead after four innings of play. Down to their final outs in the fifth inning and on the verge of being mercied, Claire Muehlbrandt delivered a crucial two-run blast to left field to keep the Wolverine's hopes alive. Lourdes would hold the Wolverines scoreless in the sixth before Makaila Cooper added one final run in the top of the seventh on a bases-loaded walk to make it 8-3.

Olivia Scott went 2-4, while Cooper went 2-2 with a walk and an RBI.

Game two was similar to the opener, as the Gray Wolves scored seven runs in the first three innings. UM-Dearborn would score their only run of the contest on an unearned run after Cooper beat out an infield single to the pitcher to make it 6-1. The Gray Wolves would add two more runs in the final innings to win 8-1 and complete the sweep over the Wolverines.
