DEARBORN, Mich. -- In a thrilling showdown, the University of Michigan-Dearborn Lacrosse team edged out Missouri Baptist 9-8 in a tight battle that saw the lead change hands multiple times. The game, held at Crestwood High School, was a hard-fought contest, but the Wolverines would prevail thanks to three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to give UM-Dearborn the 9-8 victory in come-from-behind fashion.
First Quarter:
The game kicked off with fast-paced action, with UM-Dearborntaking an early 2-0 lead. Shane Marion assisted Ryan Savage for the game's first goal at 10:19. Cole Rosenwald added another for UM-Dearborn at 7:00, but Missouri Baptist quickly responded. Ryan Metcalf scored at 6:04, followed by Joe Busselman's unassisted goal at 1:03 to tie things up. However, UM-Dearborn's Jeremy Fancett scored just before the end of the quarter, putting the hosts ahead 3-2.
Second Quarter:
The second quarter saw both teams trade goals. UM-Dearborn extended their lead with Reece Rath's unassisted goal at 13:12. Missouri Baptist responded almost immediately, with Drew Chiodini scoring at 11:33, followed by a goal from Brodie Mahmud at 4:29 for UM-Dearborn. The quarter ended with the Wolverines holding a 5-4 lead.
Third Quarter:
Missouri Baptist found themselves in a bit of a groove in the third. Joe Busselman scored twice, including a goal off Ryan Metcalf's assist at 11:30 and again at 6:51, giving the visitors a 7-5 advantage. However, UM-Dearborn came roaring back. Aidan Meyers scored at 4:16, and Raymond Lingard extended Missouri Baptist's lead to 8-6 with a goal at the 20-second mark.
Fourth Quarter:
With just over 11 minutes remaining, Brodie Mahmud brought UM-Dearborn back into the game with his second goal, cutting the deficit to 8-7. Garrett Kern was the hero for the Wolverines in the final moments, scoring twice—first tying the game at 3:49 and then delivering the game-winner unassisted at 1:45, clinching the 9-8 victory. Owen Reed secured his second win of the season making 10 saves in the contest.
