ALLENDALE, Mich. – Wolverine center Mathieu LaForest scored the first and final goals in Saturday night's (Sept. 25) 5-2 win at Grand Valley State.

LaForest, a sophomore from St. Clair Shores Lake Shore High, was unassisted on both tallies.

The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's hockey team is off to a 2-0 start after following up successfully on Friday night's 7-3 home-opener victory over Grand Valley before a packed house at the Ice Arena.

Freshman goalie Tanner Beals (Farmington) was sharp in his collegiate debut, making 19 saves and allowing two goals to Zach Borchardt.

Wolverines coach Chris Haltinner has been impressed with each of his four goalies while assessing who might become No. 1 and replace Tommy Proudlock, a mainstay of recent teams who has gone onto play professionally.

Haltinner also praised sophomore goalie Kayden Pickles for his Friday night play.

Brendan West (Plymouth) followed up on his Friday night hat trick with UM-Dearborn's first of three second-period goals. Assisting on the score were difference-making defenseman Josh Makarchuk and forward Anthony Davis.

Freshman Seth Lause (Livonia Stevenson) scored his first goal on an assist from consistent defenseman Blake Petterle.

Davis (Northville) notched his first goal of the season to make it 4-0 before the Lakers could answer. Billy Brock, who had two goals and four assists Friday, assisted on Davis' tally.

The Wolverines' next action comes Friday and Saturday at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
