FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- In a tightly contested game, the University of Michigan-Dearborn fell short against Indiana Tech, losing 8-5 in game one of a doubleheader. The game saw a combination of timely hitting from both sides, but the Warriors outlasted the Wolverines.
Game Summary: UM-Dearborn struck first in the top of the first inning when Beck Kjeldbjerg blasted a two-run homer to center field, bringing in Carter Stephenson for an early 2-0 lead. However, Indiana Tech responded quickly in the bottom of the first with a single from Jordan Malott that brought in Jorge Santana to make it 2-1. The Warriors took the lead shortly after when Garrett Rainey launched a three-run homer, pushing Indiana Tech ahead 4-2.
The middle innings saw both teams struggle to score, but Indiana Tech pulled away in the fifth. Ben Morrison's single to right field brought in Jacoby Roberson, and then two unearned runs followed due to an error and a passed ball, increasing the Warriors' lead to 7-2.
The Wolverines fought back in the top of the sixth. Kjeldbjerg singled to center, bringing in Stephenson to make it 7-3. Nathan Deleruyelle followed with a two-RBI double to left-center, driving in James Forner and Connor Swiney to bring the Wolverines within two at 7-5. However, Indiana Tech responded with a run in the bottom of the inning when Morrison singled to shortstop, scoring Roberson to re-establish a three-run advantage, 8-5.
Despite several late efforts, UM-Dearborn could not close the gap and ultimately fell 8-5.
The Warriors controlled game two, scoring 14 unanswered runs before the Wolverines finally broke through in the top of the seventh with a pair of RBIs from Dominic Palamara and Tyler Allos.
