DEARBORN, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team faced a tough challenge, suffering an 8-0 defeat to No. 4 Adrian College at home. Despite a promising start in the first period, the Wolverines were ultimately overpowered by the Bulldogs' offensive firepower and solid goaltending.
Adrian College opened the scoring in the first period at 6:46 with a goal from Cash Regan, assisted by Nash Hatcher. The Bulldogs dominated both offensively and defensively for the rest of the game.
Adrian extended their lead in the second period with a flurry of goals. Keegan DeCaluwe scored at 3:23, followed by Dylan Gajewski at 3:54. Blake Wideman added another goal at 6:35, and Matthew DiCesare capped off the period with a goal at 16:07, making it 5-0 heading into the third.
In the third period, Adrian College continued to build on its lead with goals from Hunter Allen, Blake Wideman (again), and Zak Januszkowski. By the end of the game, Adrian had tallied eight goals and a dominant 43-17 shot advantage.
Despite their best efforts, UM-Dearborn struggled to generate offense and was unable to get past Adrian's goaltender, Noah Decottignies, who stopped all 17 shots he faced for the shutout. The Wolverines' power play went 0-for-2, while Adrian failed to score on its single power play opportunity.
Adrian College's offense was led by several key contributors, including Wideman, DeCaluwe, and Fleutot, who each had multi-point performances. Drew Adams took the loss in goal for the Wolverines, making 35 saves on 43 shots.
The defeat drops UM-Dearborn's record to 8-7-0 overall and 8-4 in conference play. They will look to regroup and bounce back in their upcoming games after this tough loss to the nationally-ranked Adrian College team.
