UM-Dearborns' Season Concludes in a 3-0 Defeat Against Georgia Gwinnett

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.-- The University of Michigan-Dearborn (30-13) softball team used strong defense and timely pitching to keep themselves in their elimination game against the  Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies (36-19). GGC scored in one inning and would win the contest 3-0.

INSIDE THE GAME

The Grizzlies threatened in the bottom of the first inning, but Gina Liss cut down a Grizzly baserunner at the plate to keep the score knotted at zero. The Wolverines continued to use their strong arms in the second inning when Olivia Scott threw a dart to third base to catch a Grizzly baserunner stealing to end the inning.

The Grizzlies loaded up the bases in the bottom of the third inning, but Shae Scott fielded a hard grounder, tagged out the runner going to second, and threw out another runner at first to complete the inning-ending double-play.

The Grizzly pitching staff limited the Wolverine bats. However, UMD showed patience and poise at the plate drawing five walks. GGC delivered the games only runs in the sixth inning as a pair of base hits delivered the final blow to the Wolverines.

Lanie Ellinger (16-6) was credited with the loss in the elimination game, but the senior twirled an outstanding game in the circle. Ellinger threw 5.2 innings and allowed just one earned run. The Wolverine ace made clutch pitches when it counted and left seven Grizzlies stranded on the bases.
