Winning Twice as Nice for Wolverines in Wins Over Rochester, Grace Christian

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Victory was twice as nice Wednesday night (Sept. 15) for the University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team.

The Wolverines beat Rochester University before also downing Grace Christian in matches at Garth Pleasant Arena.

Gina and Sabrina Giacomini, twin sisters from Plymouth Canton, came up big together along with setter Regan Rose (Decatur High) in the exciting 25-20, 20-25, 15-25, 25-19, 15-11 win over Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference rival Rochester.

Sabrina had 21 assists and 13 digs, while Gina posted 19 digs and a team-high 16 kills.

Rose had a team-high 24 assists and 11 digs, while sophomore Brooke Wetherill (Dunlap, Ill., High) made 10 kills.

Sophomore Kenzie Mertz (Macomb Dakota High) had a team-high 23 digs as UM-Dearborn totaled 110 in that area.

Freshman Kristin Maust from Rochester Hills Stoney Creek High shared the team-high with 18 digs and added seven kills in the 25-17, 16-25, 25-15, 25-9 victory over Grace Christian in the second match.

Maust also had 18 digs against Rochester.

Sabrina Giacomini registered 19 assists against Grace, while sophomore Alana Palencar (Woodhaven High) came up big with 12 assists.

Junior Regan Sliwinski (Grosse Pointe North) had 22 kills, sophomore Kielee Tondryk (Hampshire, Ill., High) contributed 23 kills, and junior Amanda Wilyard (Canton High) combined for 32 digs over two games.

The Wolverines improved their record to 3-7, and host Lourdes at 7 p.m. Friday.
