Wolverines Clinch Thrilling Victory Over Lourdes

DEARBORN, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines edged out the Lourdes Gray Wolves with a thrilling 3-2 victory on Friday (Oct. 18) at The Fieldhouse. The intense clash saw the Wolverines come from behind to secure a crucial league win, moving their season record to 11-8, with a league record of 3-7.

The match unfolded with UM-Dearborn losing the first set 22-25 but rebounded strongly to dominate the second set 25-16. The third set was a closely contested affair, with Lourdes narrowly taking it 25-23. However, the Wolverines showcased their resilience by winning the fourth set 25-20 and clinching the decisive fifth set 15-12. The win can be attributed to critical performances from several players, including a standout showing from Kielee Tondryk with an impressive 19 kills.

Defensive efforts were led by Jill Paryaski, who recorded five blocks, while Kenzie Mertz excelled with 29 digs, supporting the defensive framework of the team. The offensive squad was bolstered by strong assists numbers, notably 37 from Regan Rose, which were crucial in setting up attacks. A pivotal moment in the match came during the final set when Nalani Schanz delivered a critical serve ace to tie the scores, followed by crucial kills from Tondryk, which ultimately sealed the win for UM-Dearborn.

The Wolverines will have little time to rest as they face their next opponent on Saturday (Oct. 19) as they take on the Defiance College Yellow Jackets.
