FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn was back in action on Wednesday (Mar. 26) against the Indiana Tech Warriors at The Hawk. The Warriors came out victories in both games, as the Wolverines struggled to get their bats going. Tech would win game one 6-1 and would take game two 8-1.
In game one, the game was a close contest through the first few innings, but Indiana Tech took control with a powerful offensive display in the middle innings. In the fourth, Kiersten Delaney hit a two-run home run to center field, giving Indiana Tech a 2-0 lead. Michigan-Dearborn answered back in the fifth inning with a solo shot from Mackenzie Shelton, cutting the lead to 2-1. However, Indiana Tech responded swiftly in the sixth, when Carlye Walter launched a three-run homer, extending their advantage to 5-1. They added another run in the seventh, with Victoria Boyer doubling to left field to score Carlye Basham, putting the game out of reach at 6-1.
Despite the loss, Michigan-Dearborn had some bright spots. Shelton's home run was the highlight of the day for the Wolverines. Olivia Scott and Kendall Phillip each added a single, but the team struggled to generate consistent offense against Indiana Tech's pitching. Michigan-Dearborn finished with only three hits in the game, with two of them coming from Scott and Phillip.
Sydni Uhlenberg took the loss for Michigan-Dearborn, allowing five earned runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings. Zoe Peterson relieved her for 1.2 innings, giving up one earned run. Despite their best efforts, the Wolverines could not find a rhythm against Indiana Tech's pitching staff.
The Wolverines faced a similar outcome in game two as they allowed three unearned runs and eight free bases via the walk. The Warriors would take the contest 8-1, moving the Wolverines to 2-2 in WHAC play.
