CHESTERFIELD, Mo. -- In their opening matchup of the 2025 ACHA National Tournament, the No. 7 University of Michigan-Dearborn women's ice hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 2 Maryville University.
First Period:
The game started with a high-paced first period, where Maryville University took the lead early. Just 12:11 into the period, Maryville's Brennan scored the opening goal, giving them a 1-0 advantage. The Wolverines answered back at 15:30 on a power play, with Grace Adriaanse finding the back of the net, assisted by Taylor Spence, to tie the game 1-1. However, Maryville responded quickly, as Brooks scored at 16:48, assisted by Rutherford, to regain the lead at 2-1. The period ended with both teams exchanging penalties, but neither side could add to their tally.

Second Period:
The middle frame was a defensive battle, with neither team able to score. The Wolverines continued to struggle to create offensive pressure while Maryville controlled the pace of play. Despite a slashing penalty on UM-Dearborn's Megan Kosempel at 17:52, the Wolverines' penalty kill kept the game within reach.

Third Period:
As the game wore on, the Wolverines pushed for the equalizer, but with 19:13 left in the game, Maryville's Gerwitz sealed the win with a third goal, making it 3-1. The Wolverines couldn't find a response, even with a couple of late penalties on both sides. Maryville held strong defensively, and despite a few chances for UM-Dearborn, the game ended with a final score of 3-1 in favor of Maryville. UM-Dearborn's Kenna Borso made 46 saves on 49 shots.
