ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team struggled on the road against Marian University on Saturday, suffering a 93-68 defeat. The loss drops the Wolverines to a 1-6 overall record, while Marian improves to 4-1 on the season.
Game Summary
It was a tough night for UM-Dearborn as Marian shot efficiently, particularly from beyond the arc, and had multiple players step up to dominate the game. Gus Etchison led the way for Marian with a stellar 36-point performance, including 5-of-11 shooting from three-point range and perfect free-throw shooting (11-of-11). The game was competitive early on, but Marian's offensive firepower and defense eventually overwhelmed the Wolverines.
The first half was tightly contested for much of the period. Marian got off to a strong start, but UM-Dearborn closed the gap to 44-42 by halftime. Jackson Reynolds kept the Wolverines in it with 18 first-half points, and Joshua Warren added 13 points of his own. Despite the efforts of their key scorers, the Wolverines couldn't quite find the consistency they needed to stay within striking distance.
The second half saw Marian's offense take control as the hosts continued to score at a high rate, led by Etchison, who put up 20 more points in the final 20 minutes. Marian's defense also stifled UM-Dearborn's attempts to mount a comeback, forcing the Wolverines into difficult shots and limiting their offensive flow. By the time the final buzzer sounded, Marian had secured a comfortable 93-68 win.
