Wolverines Fall in WHAC Tournament Semifinals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - In a hard-fought battle, the Lawrence Tech men's ice hockey team narrowly edged out Michigan-Dearborn, 4-3, in a thrilling overtime encounter on Saturday (Feb. 22). The game showcased an intense back-and-forth dynamic ending with the Wolverines falling to the Blue Devils in the WHAC Tournament Semifinals for the second consecutive year. 

The scoring kicked off early in the first period when Lawrence Tech's Thimo Ey opened the account at 6:17, assisted by Kevin Bond and Adrian Gonzalez-Mart. However, Michigan-Dearborn quickly responded, as Justin Renzi found the net on a power play at 8:39, leveling the score at 1-1.

The second period saw a breakout for Michigan-Dearborn when Craig McKague scored an unassisted goal at 12:43, providing them with a 2-1 lead heading into the final period.

The final chapter unfolded dramatically in the third period. Lawrence Tech tied the game just 2:56 in, with Lukas Robinson scoring, assisted by Adrian Gonzalez-Mart. Ian Kuntz then gave Lawrence Tech the lead at 4:58, but Michigan-Dearborn would not go down without a fight. Zak Januszkowski brought the score to 3-3 with another power-play goal at 11:17, setting the stage for an exciting overtime. Overtime proved decisive as Lawrence Tech's Avery Pittman scored an unassisted goal at 11:26, sealing the victory and giving LTU the nod into the Championship on Sunday.
