Wolverines Lose a Pair to Concordia (MI)

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team struggled in a pair of non-conference games against Concordia (MI) University on Sunday (Mar. 16). The Wolverines would lose the pair of seven-inning games 13-3 and 12-2. Despite the losses, Carter Stephenson had a strong day at the plate, going 5-for-7 with an RBI. Furthermore, freshman Nathan Deleruyelle hit his first collegiate home run in the seventh inning of game two. 

Game one saw the Cardinals race out to an early lead as they tagged the Wolverines for six runs in the opening frame. Roberto Torres would add one back in the top of the second as he ripped a single through the right side to score James Forner. With the Cardinals now leading 9-1 in the top of the third, Beck Kjeldbjerg laced a single to score Tyler Allos. Stephenson would bring in the Wolverines' final run in the fifth when he singled home Dominic Palamara. The Cardinals would score two more runs in the final two innings to conclude game one with a 13-3 final. 

Game two was all Concordia as they scored 12 unanswered runs before Deleruyelle stepped up in the top of the seventh and sent a deep drive over the left-field fence for a two-run blast. Kage Little would surrender one earned run in his two innings of relief. Max Granatstein went 1-2 with a walk and a double in the contest.
