Wolverines Shutout Blue Devils in Season Opening Win

Wolverines Shutout Blue Devils in Season Opening Win

DEARBORN, Mich. - Getting right back into action at the Dearborn Ice Skating Rink, a new line-up for the Wolverines women's ice hockey team made its debut. However, a lineup that featured six new faces proved to be a non-issue against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils. Despite a rocky second period, the Wolverines came out victorious, winning 3-0 in their season opener.

The Wolverines started hot, scoring the first goal by senior Erin Murphy to give the girls a 1-0 lead midway through the first. Murphy, who scored twice in all of 2023-24, picked the pocket of a Blue Devil defenseman in the offensive zone, and in a 1v1 with the netminder, Murphy tucked one over her right shoulder and gave the Wolverines an early lead. However, not too far behind was freshman Megan Kosempel, who added to the Wolverines' lead by cashing in her first goal in the Maize & Blue. Fellow linemates and rookies Ellee Kloian and Maddison McIndoo added their first career points as they assisted on Kosempels' goal.

Despite the Wolverines outshooting the Blue Devils 18-4 in the second period, neither team was able to score a goal. The Wolverines added an insurance goal about halfway through the third when Ella Dumas found her teammate Charlise Wharram at the point. Wharram unleashed a ripper of a slapshot from the point that made its way through traffic into the back of the net, ending today's game in a 3-0 win for your Wolverines.

Victoria Hahn (1-0-0) received the win as she split time with fellow netminder Kenna Borso, who combined to shut out the Blue Devils.
