DEARBORN, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team faced one of their biggest rivals in the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils on Friday (Nov 1). The Wolverines erupted with three third-period goals to hand the Blue Devils a 4-2 loss, making it their first blemish in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.
After a scoreless first period, the Wolverines lit the lamp, putting one on the board halfway through the second from Ryan Stanley. Stanley scored the powerplay goal with a bit of help from his teammate after breaking his stick earlier in the shift. Stanley quickly looked to the bench and was gifted a stick from the bench. Stanley collected himself and ripped a one-timer from the slot to give the Wolverines a crucial goal. Justin Renzi assisted the goal, and Bailey Byrd added the secondary helper.
The Blue Devils would tie the contest at one four minutes into the third, as the Blue Devils lifted a stray rebound over the sprawling Drew Adams. However, less than 60 seconds later, Stanley would put the Wolverines back on top with his second powerplay goal. Not long after that, fellow Wolverine teammate Will Barrett would give the Wolverines some needed insurance as he beat the Blue Devil netminder on a breakaway to build the lead for the Wolverines. Trying to find hope, the Blue Devils emptied their net score and scored with the man advantage with 90 seconds to play. The Wolverines would ruin all hope as Joey Cibor put away an empty net goal in the dying seconds to secure the win for the Wolverines. Adams was strong in net, stopping 22 shots in his sixth victory.
The Wolverines conclude their home-and-home series with the Blue Devils on Saturday (Nov 2).
