DEARBORN, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's soccer team oozed excitement as they anxiously awaited their season opener on Tuesday (Aug 20). The Saint Francis (Ind.) Cougars (2-0-0) spoiled their excitement, taking down the Wolverines 1-0 at Crestwood High School.

The Cougars created early chances, narrowly missing the back of the net in the opening minutes. Saint Francis outshot the Wolverines 9-2 in the first half, forcing Julia Tasker to make five first-half saves in her collegiate debut. The Cougars would break the scoreless deadlock in the 37th minute as Jaylin Carroll collected a deflected ball in the Wolverines defensive third and slotted it past Tasker into the bottom left corner. UM-Dearborn couldn't weather the storm in the second half, as they could only create two scoring chances and could not deposit anything into the back of the net.

The Wolverines take on Indiana Northwest in a Matinee contest on Friday (Aug 23) at noon.
