LIMA, Ohio -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team saw their season end at the hands of the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers on Tuesday (Feb. 25) in the Opening Round of the WHAC Conference Tournament. The Wolverines held a one-point advantage going into the half but could not string baskets together in the second half as they shot just 38.5% from the floor compared to 65.5% from the Racers. The result was an 86-74 decision that did not go the Wolverine's way.
First Half: Joshua Warren was a key contributor for the Wolverines, scoring eight points in the first half. Zachary Cody chipped in eight of his own while going 4-of-5 from the floor. Michigan-Dearborn shot 50% from the field but struggled with long-range shooting, hitting just one of 10 three-pointers. Despite this, they stayed competitive by getting four offensive rebounds and timely steals.
Second Half: Northwestern Ohio turned things around in the second half, outscoring Michigan-Dearborn 50-37. Malachi Black led the charge for the Racers, finishing the game with 13 points, 12 of which came in the second half, including a perfect five-for-five from the field. Alex Benson added 12 points as well, going 5-for-6 from the field. The Racers' hot shooting (65.5% for the half) helped them build a commanding lead. UM-Dearborn struggled to find consistent offense, as their shooting percentage dropped to 38.5%, and they only made 1 of 13 from behind the arc.
The Wolverines end the season with an 8-21 record and a chip on their shoulder after getting a taste of the postseason again for the first time since the 2019-20 season.
