UM-Dearborn wasted no time in establishing control, taking a 2-0 lead. Carter Allen opened the scoring at 3:58 with assists from Jake Emery and Zak Januszkowski. Just under 10 minutes later, at 13:01, Januszkowski scored his own goal, assisted by Ethan Marcola, to give the Wolverines a comfortable advantage.
The game opened up further in the middle frame. Michigan-Dearborn quickly extended its lead to 3-0 just 43 seconds into the period as Jake Emery found the net with helpers from Joey Cibor and Bailey Byrd.
The momentum swung even more in the Wolverines' favor when Januszkowski scored a short-handed goal at 7:26, with assistance from Dawson Nelson and Josh Makarchuk, pushing the lead to 4-0. Michigan-Dearborn added two more goals in quick succession: Joey Cibor netted a power-play goal at 12:49, followed by another from Cibor at 14:02, assisted by Brenden Paden and Caleb Cathcart.
Concordia responded late in the period with two goals of its own. Brayden Tayles scored a power-play goal at 16:09, assisted by Kyle Hebner and Joseph Lajcaj, and just 53 seconds later, Hebner made it a 6-2 game with help from Ethan Lindle and Derek Hebner.
Concordia continued to battle, and early in the third period, Carson Ediger cut the deficit to 6-3, scoring at 0:31 with assists from Lindle and Nicholas Twombley. Then, at 8:55, Lindle scored a short-handed goal, assisted by Kyle Hebner and Derek Hebner, to make it 6-4, giving the Cardinals a glimmer of hope.
However, Michigan-Dearborn sealed the win late in the game. With just 39 seconds remaining, Bailey Byrd scored an empty-net goal, assisted by Cibor and Makarchuk, to make the final score 7-4.
