Wolverines Drop Road Contest Against No. 12 Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team hit the road for an early-season test on Thursday (Oct. 3) against preseason No. 12 Calvin University. The Knights lived up to their ranking, scoring four unanswered goals to start the game and eventually cruising to a 7-3 victory.

After entering the second period with a 4-0 deficit, the Wolverines rattled off three unanswered goals to bring the contest within one. Brenden Paden did the work early for the Wolverines, receiving an assist from A.J. Benit just 62 seconds into the period. Two minutes later, the Wolverines special teams unit was on the ice, making it a 4-2 game after a Caleb Cathcart powerplay goal. Zak Januszkowski made it 4-3 at 7:43, and the Wolverines had life again.

With the second period winding down, the Knights gave themselves some insurance heading into the final 20 minutes up 5-3. Calvin would score two unanswered goals in the final period to win the contest 7-3 and defend their home ice.

The Wolverines and the Knight meet on Friday (Oct. 4) for the finale of the home-and-home series.
