ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team put together a strong performance on Sunday afternoon, but came up just short in a 3-2 loss to Aquinas College at home. The Wolverines honored their four seniors Jack Cronyn, David Egged, Luis Gallardo and Jacob White at the conclusion of game one.

The Wolverines showed fight throughout the game, matching Aquinas (19-20, 12-6 WHAC) in hits and holding them scoreless over the final inning and a half. Despite a solid outing from the pitching staff and some timely offense, UM-Dearborn could not complete the comeback.

Senior Gavin Hampton provided a spark in the bottom of the fifth, launching a solo home run to deep left to cut the deficit to 2-1. After Aquinas tacked on a third run in the sixth via a wild pitch, the Wolverines responded quickly. Tucker Corby stole a base and came around to score on a clutch RBI single by Carter Stephenson, trimming the lead to one.

On the mound, Jack Clever (0-2) gave the Wolverines five innings of work, allowing three earned runs on five hits while striking out five. Reliever Ben Cardella was nearly perfect in his two innings, retiring all six batters he faced to give UM-Dearborn a chance late.

Offensively, Max Granatstein led the team with two hits, while Alex Schmitt, Stephenson, Palamara, and Hampton each recorded a hit. The Wolverines were aggressive on the basepaths, collecting four stolen bases.
