GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's ice hockey team won in their first road contest on Friday (Oct. 11) against the Grand Valley State Lakers. Victoria Hahn started in net for the Wolverines and shut out the Lakers en route to a 2-0 victory. Sydney Gillen and Andi Evers scored in the win.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first 20 minutes despite the Wolverines outshooting the Lakers 15-5 in the opening period. Sydney Gillen opened the scoring in the second period as she etched her name on the scoresheet after scoring her first goal of the season at the 13:52 mark. Finnia O'Neill Di Mascio and Ellee Kloian provided assists on the goal. At the 17:07 mark, Andi Evers scored her first of the season as Stephanie Hatch found her on the powerplay, helping the Wolverines powerplay unit convert on one of their three opportunities on the night.
