Wolverines Split Series with Lakers

DEARBORN, Mich.- The University of Michigan- Dearborn Women's Hockey team played game two of the two-game series against Lake Superior State University on Saturday (Dec. 7). The Wolverines ended up splitting the series with a loss to the Lakers in overtime, with a final score of 3-2. The Wolverines now sit with a record of 8-9 heading into the winter break.

The Wolverines came out hot in the first period, scoring a slapshot goal from Amy Palaian just a minute and a half into the game, giving them a 1-0 lead. Following the goal, the Wolverines scored again with a tip-in goal from Andi Evers, who put the Wolverines up 2-0 halfway through the first. The Lakers scored in the late minutes of the third, putting them one goal behind heading into the second period.

The Lakers came out in the second hot, scoring within the first three minutes of the second and tying the game at 2-2. The Wolverines kept firing, peppering the Laker netminder, but they could not find the back of the net. This was the same for the third period as well. With both teams giving everything and just trying to find one more, the teams went into overtime tied at 2-2.

The Wolverines gained control in overtime; however, a blocked shot by the Lakers led to a breakaway goal and the Lakers' win, with a final score of 3-2.

The Wolverines head into their winter break and are back in action following the new year on Friday (Jan.10) at home against Sault College.
