FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team delivered a dominant 12-1 victory over Rochester Christian (Mich.) in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Wolverines were relentless throughout the game, breaking open the scoring early and never looking back, as they extended their lead with each period.
The first period saw UM-Dearborn get off to a hot start, scoring four goals in under 18 minutes. Matt Cunningham opened the scoring at 11:07 with help from Ryan Teets and Jake Emery. Less than two minutes later, Craig McKague found the back of the net, assisted by Zak Januszkowski. Carter Allen and Caleb Cathcart followed up with goals at 18:00 and 18:44, respectively, giving the Wolverines a commanding 4-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The onslaught continued in the second period, where the Wolverines added six more goals to their tally. Brenden Paden got things started at 5:09, followed by McKague's second goal of the game at 10:25. Cathcart's second goal at 10:46, along with another goal from Allen at 12:29, left the game well out of reach for Rochester Christian. Despite being down 10-0, Rochester Christian got on the board at 13:28 with a goal from Caden Pachota, assisted by Aidan Baker. However, UM-Dearborn quickly responded with a power-play goal from Zak Januszkowski at 14:24 and a short-handed goal from Paden at 18:02.
The third period saw a quieter pace, with only two additional goals being scored. Cathcart netted his third goal of the game at 9:25 on the power play, and Will Barrett capped off the scoring with a goal at 14:31, assisted by Carter Allen and Ethan Marcola.
The Wolverines advance to tomorrow's semifinals against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils. The puck is scheduled to drop at 6 pm.
