DEARBORN, Mich. -- Three University of Michigan-Dearborn student-athletes earned Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards. The league announced on Monday (Nov. 4). Kenzie Mertz and Regan Rose of Volleyball won Defender and Setter of the Week, while Ryan Stanley of men's ice hockey won Defensive Player of the Week.
Kenzie Mertz - Volleyball Defender of the Week
For Mertz, this marks the fifth time she has received WHAC weekly honors this season. Mertz had an outstanding week, posting games with 34 and 29 digs. Mertz averaged 7.00 digs/set, and her 5.18 digs/set moved her to first in the WHAC. Not only was Mertz solid in defense, but she was also consistent in serve/receive, as she tallied just one reception error in 45 chances.
Regan Rose - Volleyball Setter of the Week
Rose was masterful this week for the Wolverines. Rose recorded games with 46 and 56 assists, including an impressive 14.00 assists/set in a four-set victory over LTU on Friday (Nov. 1). Rose also tallied double-digit digs in both games to secure her seventh and eighth double-double this season. Rose added four aces from the service line to cap off an incredible individual performance in a 2-0 week.
Ryan Stanley - Men's Ice Hockey Defensive Player of the Week
This weekend, the blueliner was a maestro on the Wolverines' special teams unit. Stanley and the Wolverines power play unit scored four powerplay goals in two wins over LTU. Stanley scored twice and assisted another to give UM-Dearborn two crucial conference wins this weekend. Not only were the Wolverines scoring on the powerplay, but the Wolverines killed off five LTU penalties without conceding a goal.
