ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The No. 7 UM-Dearborn women's ice hockey team lost to the No. 6 McKendree Bearcats in a close game that ended 1-0 in favor of the Bearcats. The game was held on neutral ground, and the scoring was limited to the first period when Jayna Barnden of McKendree scored a power-play goal assisted by Kerstyn Barron at the 8:39-minute mark. The rest of the game saw no further scoring as both teams put up a solid defensive effort to deny the opposition any opportunities to score.

The game saw 37 shots from the Bearcats and 17 from UM-Dearborn, although none were successful. The latter had four power-play opportunities but could not capitalize on them.

McKendree's Barnden was the only player to score a goal in the game, while Barron provided the assist. UM-Dearborn's goaltender, Kenna Borso, had a phenomenal game in net, making 36 saves. Borso made countless saves in precarious situations to keep the Wolverines alive. On the other hand, McKendree's netminder, Rachel Staresinic, saved all 17 shots she faced.

Both teams received several penalties during the game, with UM-Dearborn receiving 14 minutes on seven infractions while McKendree received eight minutes on four infractions.

The Wolverines will take on the University of Michigan in an elimination game tomorrow (Mar.14).
