Wolverine offense opens the season with hot start, win over Alma 18-8

BEVERLEY HILLS, Mich. — The University of Michigan-Dearborn lacrosse team opened up the 2024 season with a non-conference matchup against the Alma College Scots this Saturday afternoon in Beverley Hills, Mich.

The Wolverines would find themselves up two at the half and followed it up with an eight-goal outburst in the third to pull away from the Scots for the 18-8 win.

Leading the way for UM-Dearborn were Nolan Kelley and Jeremy Fancett, both with four goals, while Ryan Savaged added three and Brodie Mahmud and Braxton Kern both chipped in with two of their own.

Nico Candela led Alma College with a game-high five goals.

Jack Meyers got the start and the win in goal for the Wolverines, making six saves, while newcomer Owen Reed played the second half, also making six saves.

UM-Dearborn will return to action against Trine University at 2 pm on Sunday, February 18th at the Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium in Angola, Ind.
