Jones Hits Second Long Ball of the Season Against Concordia (MI)

LIVONIA, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team faced off against one of the top teams in the WHAC on Wednesday (Mar. 27). A makeup game from the previously scheduled for March 24th was played at University Field on the campus of Madonna University. The Wolverines lost both games in the doubleheader, dropping game one 8-1 and 7-1 in game two.

The Wolverines struggled at the plate in both games, only mustering two runs. In game one, the Wolverines' lone run came in the third inning. Olivia Scott laced a one-out double to right center to bring up Shae Scott with a runner-in-scoring position. She then replaced Olivia Scott at second base as she roped a double over the left fielder's head to make it 3-1 Cardinals. The Wolverines tallied six hits in the contest, with additional hits coming from Lindsay Marlewitz, Claire Muehlbrandt, Kendyl Gearhart, and Paige Maltby. Hannah Koch started in the circle and struck out four batters in 4.2 innings.

UM-Dearborn again tallied six hits in game two. However, a pair of freshmen delivered the big damage for the Wolverines. Kendyl Gearhart poked a double to left center but was stranded. In the fourth, Brooklynn Jones hammered a solo shot over the left field fence to make it a 2-1 ball game. The score remained 2-1 until the seventh, when the Cardinals rattled off five runs to put the game out of reach.

The Wolverines take on Rochester on Saturday (Mar. 30) at one and 3:30.
