Second-Half Surge Falls Short Against Bulldogs

ATHENS, Tenn. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn struggled early against the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs on Tuesday (Feb. 27). After the first two quarters, the Wolverines trailed 6-1. UM-Dearborn would outscore the Bulldogs 6-3 in the final two quarters but would fall short, losing 9-7 at the TWU Athletic Complex. 

Five Wolverines scored in the contest, with Joseph Atherall and Quest Bigelow each scoring two. Nolan Kelley, Shane Marion, and Jeremy Fancett added goals. Chance Mahon had a game-high seven ground balls. Owen Reed had a strong game in net for the Wolverines, making 15 saves on 24 shots. 15 saves mark a new season-high for Reed. 

Trailing 8-4 heading into the fourth quarter, the Wolverines rallied with three unanswered goals, cutting it to 8-7 with 1:51 to play in the contest. The Bulldogs won the ensuing faceoff and scored a crucial insurance goal with 1:22 left. The loss drops the Wolverines record to 2-3 on the young season.
