Wolverines Split Twin-bill Against RCU

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team split a twin-bill against Rochester Christian University on Monday (Apr. 8). The Wolverines dropped the opener 9-1 and won the nightcap 12-11. 

The Warriors jumped out to a five-run lead after five innings. Carter Stephenson got the Wolverines on the board during the next half-inning when he scored Gavin Hampton on a SAC fly. The Warriors would add four more in the final two innings to end in the 9-1 final. 

In game two, the Warriors again jumped out to an early lead, plating four runs in the first inning. The Wolverines erupted in the third for a resounding six runs. A two-run single from James Forner highlighted the scoring. Matthew Balash, and Matthew Williams scored on the play. 

After an RBI single and a pair of long balls, the Warriors regained the 8-6 lead. Forner again answered for the Wolverines as he tagged an RBI single to left to score Hampton. Later, Max McLennan laced an RBI triple to right to tie the game at eight. The next batter, Matthew Balash, singled to center to score the go-ahead run. 

The Warriors would tie it in the bottom of the sixth, but the Wolverines put the game out of reach in the seventh and eighth innings when Bryce Schwab hit a two-RBI single to make it 11-9. Forner capped off his impressive 4-5 day at the plate with his fourth RBI to score Gavin Hampton and make it 12-9. 

Alvaro Hernandez shut the door in the ninth inning to secure the Wolverines' first conference win.
