The University of Michigan-Dearborn Player of the Week is pitcher Tyler Koons, it was announced Wednesday.

The Wolverines opened the spring portion of the 2019-20 schedule with three games this past weekend against Robert Morris University-Illinois in Florence, Ky. While UM-Dearborn finished with a 1-2 record in the series, the win was highlighted by the stellar performance of sophomore picture Tyler Koons.

In his spring debut, Koons tossed the first no-hitter in program history as he faced the minimum 21 batters in the seven-inning game, with the only runner for Eagles reaching on an error and getting erased from the bases later in the inning. Koons (2-0) finished with seven innings pitched, no hits and no walks while striking out nine, including the final three batters of the game in an immaculate nine-pitch, nine-strike seventh. UM-Dearborn won game two 2-0 over the Eagles

The Flat Rock, Mich., native will look to lead the new arms for the Wolverines after transferring from Eastern Michigan University prior to the fall. Koons pitched two games in the fall, picking up his first win while striking out nine in nine innings.

UM-Dearborn will play a total of 11 games from Feb. 29 to March 7 in Florida, starting at the RussMatt Invitational, followed by the Warner University Invitational. On March 6, the Wolverines are scheduled to play No. 2 St. Thomas University and No. 7 Bellevue University.
