HALL OF FAME: MEN'S ICE HOCKEY'S JESSE HUBENSCHMIDT

DEARBORN, Mich. – The records set by Jesse Hubenschmidt during his time with the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team set a high standard, standing up for more than 20 years as the pinnacle of Wolverine men's ice hockey.

Hubenschmidt will be inducted to the UM-Dearborn Athletics Hall of Fame in the inaugural class, alongside four Wolverine legends, as the first member to be honored from the tradition-filled UM-Dearborn program. The induction banquet is set for 7 pm Thursday in the Michigan Room of Fairlane Center South in Dearborn.

Hubenschmidt was the first student-athlete to be inducted into the American Collegiate Hockey Association Hall of Fame in 2008. His No. 25 jersey was the first to be retired by UM-Dearborn in 1997, later joined by Michael Macari's No. 12. In his four seasons, Hubenschmidt was named All-League three times, CSCHL Most Valuable Player twice, ACHA All American twice and ACHA All-Tournament twice.

In 1994-95, Hubenschmidt set a national scoring record with 128 points, including 71 goals and 57 assists, earning the prestigious Bob Johnson Award as the ACHA's top player. He was also a finalist for the award in 1995-96.

Hubenschmidt holds the UM-Dearborn career scoring records with 371 points in 136 games played. He closed his career with 185 goals and 186 assists, despite missing the first half of his sophomore season due to a shoulder injury.

After graduating from UM-Dearborn in 1997, Hubenschmidt began a career in finance with Fives Cinetic Automation, where he has been for 20 years. He continues to be involved with hockey at the youth level, coaching for the girl's HoneyBaked Hockey Club for more than a decade.

Jesse and his wife Jennifer Hubenschmidt now reside in South Lyon, Mich., and have two daughters, Allie and Avery. Jennifer is a graduate of UM-Dearborn, while Jesse has two brothers that played for the Wolverine men's ice hockey team.

Hubenschmidt joins fellow inductees, Pat Hughes (Men's Basketball), Diane Calliway (Women's Basketball), Mike "Gib" Gibson (Former Volleyball Head Coach) and Dr. Peggy Foss (Former UM-Dearborn Director of Athletics) in the first class to be honored by the UM-Dearborn Athletics Hall of Fame.
