Offensive Outburst Propels Wolverines Past Blue Devils

BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's lacrosse team put together a complete game against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils on Saturday (Mar. 23). The Wolverines outscored the Blue Devils 9-2 in the second half en route to a 15-8 victory at Detroit Country Day. 

The first half was evenly matched, with both teams scoring six goals. UM-Dearborn trailed 4-2 entering the second quarter but rattled off three unanswered goals to take a 5-4 lead. Nolan Kelley scored on the man-up advantage to make it 3-4. Quest Bigelow scored at the 9:24 to make it 4-4. Owen Reed provided the assist. The Wolverines took the 5-4 lead at the 5:50 mark of the second quarter when Jeremy Fancett scored his first of five goals. The Wolverines took a 6-5 lead with 2:17 to play, but the Blue Devils scored with 20 seconds remaining to equalize the score heading into the break. 

The Wolverines dominated the second half from start to finish. They rattled off three unanswered goals, starting with a Nolan Kelley goal off a Mason Loudermilk assist at the 14-minute mark. Bigelow answered with an unassisted goal 34 seconds later to take an 8-6 lead. Brodie Mahmud made it 9-6 at 10:14 after catching the Joseph Atherall pass and depositing it into the back of the net. After LTU answered to make it 9-7, Fancett scored the final three goals of the quarter to make it 12-7. Ryan Savage, Mahmud, and Kelley all assisted with the Fancett trio of goals. 

UM-Dearborn would score three more goals in the final stanza to help increase their lead to eight. Mason Loudermilk, Mahmud, and Fancett all scored unassisted goals to help the Wolverines to a 15-8 final. 

Fancett and the Wolverines take on Lourdes on Wednesday (Mar. 27) at 7 pm.
