Wolverines Take Seventh at Fall WHAC Preview

AUGUSTA, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's golf team put together two intense days at the Fall WHAC Preview at Stonehedge North Golf Club. The Wolverines took home seventh after taking down Lourdes in Match Play 4-1. 

 

On day one, the Wolverines finished the stroke play portion of the WHAC Preview in seventh place, one stroke shy of finishing in a three-way tie for fifth. Megan Rogers was the only Wolverine competitor inside the top 20 as she shot an 84 en route to a tie for 17th. Kristen Guobis finished two strokes behind Rogers, giving her a tie for 21st. Sophia Cueva and Danielle Gonser rounded out the stroke play results with an 88 and 91, respectively. 

 

The Wolverines were in the second flight of match play, squaring off against the fifth-seeded Cornerstone Golden Eagles. CU defeated the Wolverines 3-2 in the opening round. UM-Dearborn bounced back on day two as they would face off against Lourdes in the consolation match. The matchup was all Wolverines, as they would win 4-1 over the Gray Wolves.

 

Megan Rogers would take on the Gray Wolves no.1. Rogers was one up heading into 18 but would prove to be a cornerstone for the future as she took the hole to finish 2-up and give the Wolverines the 1-0 lead. Kristen Guobis and Sofia Cueva would both handle their matchups at no.2 & 3 as they sealed their victory on the 15th green, winning 4&3. Danielle Gonser put on a clinic in the last matchup as she won her matchup 6&5, sealing her win on the 13th green. 

 

Lourdes won the matchup at no.5 by default.
