Wolverines Split Away Series Against Lourdes

SYLVANIA, OHIO – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (3-21, 3-10) split a hard-fought away series against the Lourdes University Gray Wolves on Saturday (Apr. 8). The Gray Wolves scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 5-3 victory in game one. The Wolverines took the backend of the doubleheader 6-4. 

 

Game One

Both teams were held scoreless until the third inning when Lourdes scored a pair of runs on an RBI single and a throwing error by the Wolverines. UM-Dearborn answered in the fourth on a pair of RBI base hits from Gavin Hollon and Max McClennan. Hollon knocked home Mark Schaaf and Nathaniel Wandrie on a line drive to left center field. McLennan hit a sharp single through the right side of the infield to score Ingersoll to give UM-Dearborn a 3-2 lead. 

 

In the bottom of the sixth, Lourdes would score three runs, two of which were unearned, helping propel them to the 5-3 victory in game one. 

 

Tyler Troyer (1-4) was credited with the loss after logging a solid start for the Wolverines. Troyer scattered eight hits over 5.2 innings and allowed two earned runs. 

 

Game Two

The Wolverines worked an early lead in game two as Nathan Mack, and Wandrie came up with a pair of RBI singles to give UM-Dearborn an early 3-0 lead. 

 

Lourdes would respond with four unanswered runs to take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth. The Wolverines would rely on their veteran leadership to regain the lead in the top of the sixth. Evan Morin would rip a two-RBI double, scoring McClennan and Grant Ingersoll to take a 5-4 lead. Matthew Williams delivered some insurance for the Wolverines on an RBI single to right-center to score Morin. 

 

The Wolverine arms gave UM-Dearborn a strong performance as Matthew Silka and Nick Saylor combined to strike out 12 Gray Wolves in the victory. Saylor was credited with the victory after coming in relief of Silka to throw five innings of one-run ball.
