Shae Scott and Brooklynn Jones Go Deep in a Pair of Losses

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team finished a weekend series against The University of Northwestern Ohio Racers on Sunday (Apr. 7). The Racers took game one by a 7-3 final. The Wolverines loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh but a flyout ended the game in a 4-3 final.

The Wolverines scored their first run on a fielder's choice off the bat of Paige Maltby. Maltby hit a hard grounder to the second basemen, allowing Kendyl Gearhart to score from third, making it a 2-1 ball game. After the Racers scored five unanswered runs, The Wolverines trailed 7-1 heading into their final at-bats. After Olivia Scott laced her second hit of the game to lead off the inning, Shae Scott stepped up to the dish and blasted a two-run shot over the left field wall to make it 7-3. The Racers retired the final three hitters in order to end in a 7-3 final.

In game two, the Racers took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single. UNOH would score three more runs over the next three innings to take a 4-0 lead. UM-Dearborn responded in the bottom of the frame after Claire Muehlbrandt hit a deep fly ball to left field to score Gearhart on a SAC fly.

The Wolverines weren't done yet as Brooklynn Jones laced her third deep fly of the season in the bottom of the sixth to make it 4-3. Down to their final at-bats in the seventh, the Wolverines loaded the bases after singles from Muehlbrandt and Marlewitz and a hit by pitch from Olivia Scott. However, the Wolverines flew out to left to record the final out and came up short in a 4-3 loss.

The Wolverines are back in action on Wednesday (Apr. 10) against the Cleary Cougars. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30.
