Wolverines top RedHawks, complete third-straight series sweep

DEARBORN, Mich. — The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's hockey team returned to action Friday night, playing host to the Miami (OH) RedHawks in the first game of a CCWHA weekend series.

The two squads would trade goals throughout the game, however, the Wolverines would get the game-winning tally midway through the third period on their way to a 4-3 victory over the RedHawks.

UM-Dearborn would open the scoring seven minutes into the first period as Kaylee Keledjian found the back of the net with Samantha Sensoli and Madison Schroeder getting the assists. After Miami (OH) tied the game on the power play, the Wolverines Andy Evers would respond with a power play goal of her own with Sensoli and Schroeder adding their second helpers of the contest. The RedHawks would tie the game once again as the two teams would head into the second intermission knotted up at two.

Schoeder would give UM-Dearborn its third lead of the game, her third point of the game, with Taylor Spence and Cadence Pero adding the helpers. However, Miami (OH) would tie the game once again midway through the third period on the powerplay. The Wolverines would respond quickly, scoring just 54 seconds later as Stephanie Hatch floated a shot from the point that found the back of the net, the first goal and point of her collegiate career. Sensoli and Keledjian would add the assists on the Hatch game-winning goal. UM-Dearborn would close out the final 10 minutes of action on its way to a 4-3 victory.

Victoria Hahn got the start in goal for the Wolverines, making 17 saves in the winning effort.

The two teams would wrap-up the weekend series down in Oxford, Ohio with UM-Dearborn looking for its third consecutive sweep. The Wolverines would rely on one goal in the first and another in the third in order to complete the sweep of Miami (OH) and staying undefeated in CCWHA play.

Sydney Gillen would open the scoring in the first period with Amy Palaian getting the lone assist. After a scoreless second, UM-Dearborn would capitalize as the RedHawks would get into some penalty trouble in the final period. Andi Evers pushed the Wolverine lead to 2-0 after an unassisted effort adding to her team-leading goal total, sealing the game for UM-Dearborn and the series sweep.

Kenna Borso would get the start in goal for the Wolverines, making 18 saves and notching her fourth shutout of the year.

The win extends the UM-Dearborn winning streak to six as they improve to 9-3-0 overall and 4-0-0 in CCWHA action.

The Wolverines return to action against Davenport University at 7pm Friday, November 10th at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.
