Crusader lead too much for Wolverines to overcome

LIVONIA, Mich.— The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team returned to action with a 9-inning game against the Madonna University Crusaders Wednesday afternoon. 

The Wolverines found themselves in a close contest after two innings, however, the Crusaders would bust the game open with an 11-run third inning. The UM-Dearborn offense chipped away at the Madonna lead, scoring four runs in both the fourth and sixth innings, but the Crusaders would add two more runs in the eighth inning on their way to a 17-11 victory over the Wolverines.

Leading the way for UM-Dearborn were Matthew Williams (3 for 6, 2B, 2 R, 3 RBIs) and Nathan Mack (2 for 5, 3B, 2 R, RBI, BB), while Max McLennan (2 for 3, 2B, RBI, 3BB, SB, R) reached base in five different at-bats. Williams got the start on the mound for the Wolverines giving up four earned runs and scattering three hits, while striking out three.

Madonna University was led by Bobby Cavin (5 for 6, 2B, HR, 3 R, 6 RBIs), while Sam Assaf got the victory for the Crusaders giving up three runs on six hits while striking out three.

UM-Dearborn closes out the regular season with two double-headers against the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles at 1 pm on Friday (4/28) and Saturday (4/29) at De Witt Field in Grand Rapids, Mich.
