DEARBORN, Mich. -- Sophomore infielder Gavin Hampton had his best day dawning the Maize & Blue after swinging a lethal bat for the University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team on Thursday (Apr. 18). Hampton clubbed three home runs and three RBIs against the Rochester Christian Warriors. The Wolverines split the doubleheader, dropping game one 16-6 and winning game two 10-4.

The game was a back-and-forth affair early on, with neither team scoring in the first two innings. However, UM-Dearborn broke through with two runs in the bottom of the third, courtesy of a solo home run from Gavin Hampton in the third and a sacrifice fly from Hampton in the fourth, bringing the score up to 3-0. The Maize & Blue then took control of the game with a three-run fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from Matthew Balash. Rochester Christian tried to fight back with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth, but the Wolverines responded with two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Max McLennan had a huge game for Michigan-Dearborn, going 3-for-3 with two walks, four runs scored, and two RBIs, including a home run in the seventh inning. Matthew Balash also had a big game, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs, including a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

On the mound, UM-Dearborn's Luis Gallardo picked up the win, pitching a complete game while allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk, striking out seven. Rochester Christian used five different pitchers in the game, with Donovon Galovich taking the loss after giving up four runs on eight hits in three innings of work.
