Late Heroics Push Wolverines Past Cougars

Late Heroics Push Wolverines Past Cougars

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (5-5-1, 1-3-1) women's soccer team used a late goal from the boot of Emmi Pinkowski to give them their first conference win of the season. The Wolverines pulled out the 2-1 victory, playing their first game at the newly renovated Charger Field at Crestwood High School.

The Wolverines started slowly, a problem that head coach George Easter hopes to correct in the coming days. That slow start resulted in the Cougars heading in a goal just four minutes into the contest.

However, that was the only shot the Cougars registered in the first 45 minutes. The Wolverines played most of the half in the Cougar defensive third as they recorded 14 shots, 10 of which were on goal. The Cougars could only save nine of those shots as Juju Kleit put in the equalizer in the 28th minute off a cross from Rena Arabi

It looked like Cleary made the proper adjustments coming of the half as they tried the Wolverine goalkeeper early in the half, forcing Amelia Strochine into a challenging save to preserve the tie. The Wolverines would continue pressing the Cougars and pushing for a late goal. That goal would come in the 81st minute as Nadia Saab found space on the right wing and laced a cross into the back post where Pinkowski was waiting to deliver the ball into the back of the net. The Wolverines would hold off the Cougars in the final nine minutes to secure the 2-1 victory.

The Wolverines outshot the Cougars 21-4 in the victory.
