DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (5-3-0) women's ice hockey team welcomed the Niagara Purple Eagles (2-2-1) to the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena on Friday (Oct. 27) for the beginning of a two-game home series on concluding on Saturday. Freshman Kenna Borso got the start in between the pipes in the opener, making 28 saves en route to her third shutout on the year.

Each team created scoring chances early in the opening period, but both netminders were ready for the early challenge. The Wolverines weathered the early storm from the Purple Eagles and turned up the heat in the final 10 minutes of the first. In total, the Wolverines put 21 shots on the net compared to just nine from the Purple Eagles. The barrage of shots resulted in a Samantha Sensoli goal with 2:10 to play in the first period. Kaylee Keledjian and Madison Schroeder dished out assists on Sensoli's fifth goal of the year.

The second period was a stalemate as neither team could get on the scoresheet. Borso stopped 13 shots in the period and helped the Wolverines kill off three penalties. The Purple Eagles were 0-7 on the powerplay in the contest.

The Wolverines got their needed insurance goal with 14 minutes remaining in the third period. The Purple Eagles successfully killed off a Wolverine powerplay, but Cadence Pero tipped in her own rebound shortly after the Purple Eagles went back to full strength.
