Wolverines Drop a Pair Against Warriors

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team dropped a pair of games at Ray Fisher Stadium on Sunday (Mar. 24). The Indiana Tech Warriors defeated the Wolverines in two Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference games, 8-0 and 11-4. 

The Warriors' starter stymied the Wolverines in game one, striking out 13 batters and scattering five hits in a complete-game shutout. Matthew Balash was strong at the plate, delivering a base hit in all three of his at-bats. Max McLennan and Carter Stephenson each added hits for the Maize & Blue. 

Johnny Hesterman started on the hill and threw four innings, surrendering three runs on four hits and four walks. Mari Hegenberger-Ellars pitched an inning and a third of relief. 

The Wolverines took the lead early in game two as Gavin Hampton doubled to right in the bottom of the first to score McLennan. Later, Hampton scored on an error by the catcher to make it 2-0 Wolverines. The Warriors would respond with four unanswered runs before Lance Smith roped a double over the centerfielder's head in the fifth to score Nathaniel Wandrie

The Warriors controlled the contest the remainder of the way, scoring seven runs over the final six innings to win the contest 11-4. 

The Wolverines will conclude the series tomorrow (Mar. 25) against the Warriors in a doubleheader at Memorial Park in Royal Oak. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
