VIERA, Fla. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (8-4) softball team took a pair of victories on Sunday (Mar. 5) at the Space Coast Games. The Wolverines took game one 3-2 over Roosevelt University (2-5) and defeated Culver-Stockton (MO) 9-3.

Game One vs. Roosevelt 3-2

Both teams tallied a run in the opening frame. Makenna Millhorn put the Wolverines on the board as she sent a rocket over the right-center field fence for her second round-tripper of the season. Amber Cheplick would increase the Wolverine lead in the fourth inning as she drew a bases-loaded walk on a nine-pitch at-bat to make it 2-1. Aspen Starr nearly cleared the center field wall in the fifth as she hit a double off the center field fence to score Claire Muehlbrandt and give UM-Dearborn the 3-1 lead. The Lakers would get one back in the seventh, but it was too late as the Wolverines took a 3-2 victory.

Paige Maltby (1-0) got the win in game one throwing 4.2 innings of one-run ball and punching out two batters. Sydni Uhlenberg got the save as she came in and recorded the final seven outs to help preserve the victory.

Game Two vs. Culver Stockton (MO) 9-3

Game two was all Wolverines as UM-Dearborn jumped on the Wildcats for three first-inning runs. Millhorn ripped a two-RBI double to right-center to score Muehlbrandy and Shae Scott. Later in the inning, Marisa Vermiglio hit a SAC fly to center to score Millhorn from third.

The Wildcats got one run back in the third, but the Wolverines would respond with a four-run third inning thanks to RBIs from Ryann Makowski, Olivia Scott, Cheplick, and Shae Scott

Vermiglio would each add another RBI in the sixth, increasing their lead to 9-2.

Lanie Ellinger (3-1) got the win in game two, tossing 5.0 innings and scattering two runs on five hits, and punching out six Wildcats. Hannah Koch came in relief of Ellinger throwing the final two innings.
