VIERA, Fla. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (5-3) softball team stumbled on day four of their spring trip after dropping both games on Thursday (Mar. 2). UM-Dearborn was shut out 5-0 in game one against Huntington (4-2) and blew a lead in the top of the seventh to drop game two against St. Thomas University (8-0).

Game One

The Wolverine offense was minimized in game one as the Forester starter Karlee Franklin threw a complete game shut-out and struck out 11 batters. The Foresters allowed just three base runners in the game.

Despite her strong performance, Hannah Koch (0-1) was credited with the loss. Koch tossed 5.2 innings and allowed two earned runs while striking out two.

Chloe Grimm was one of the lone bright spots as she went 1-2 in her first collegiate start.

Game Two

UM-Dearborns two and three hitters were the story of game two as Katrina Caldwell and Makenna Millhorn were a combined 5-8 with four runs scored. Caldwell was 2-4 with a pair of runs, and Millhorn was 3-4 with two runs scored. Aspen Starr drove in three runs in the loss.

The Wolverines carried the lead for 6.2 innings, but the Bobcats put a runner in scoring position with one out in the inning. Vince Alessandrini made the call to his bullpen as he brought in Sydni Uhlenberg to close down the game. Uhlenberg got a quick lineout to get the second out of the inning, but the next batter drove a ball to left field. The Wolverines looked to make a play at the plate but came up just short of tagging out the tying run to end the game. However, a Wolverine throwing error would allow the Bobcats to keep the inning alive and score another run putting the Wolverines behind 5-4. The Wolverines put a pair of runners on in the bottom of the frame, but a fielder's choice and a lineout ended the game with the tying run in scoring position.
