MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (1-2) baseball team traveled to the Cougar Baseball Field to take on Mount Vernon Nazarene in a non-conference matchup on Friday (Oct. 6) and Saturday (Oct. 7). The Wolverines and the Cougars played a three-game series resulting in the Cougars taking two of the three games.

The Wolverines dropped game one of the series 10-0 in eight innings but bounced back in the Saturday opener, winning 8-7 in seven innings.

The Wolverines scored all eight of their runs in the first two innings. Utilizing the long ball on a chilly fall day. UM-Dearborn put a crooked number on the board in the first inning after a SAC fly from Matthew Williams and an RBI single from Nathaniel Wandrie to score Max McLennan. The Cougars responded with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning to even the score.

In the top of the second, Drake Schultz stepped up to the dish after a Grant Ingersoll single to left and blasted a two-run homer over the right field fence to give the Wolverines a 4-2 lead. After the Wolverines scored on a double steal to make it 5-2, Matthew Balash turned on a ball and sent it towering over the left field fence for a three-run jack. The Wolverines scored six runs in the inning to give them an 8-2 lead.

MVN would slowly battle back and make it an 8-7 ball game, but the Wolverines would close out the Cougars thanks to a four-out save from Johnny Hesterman.
