Sowash Finishes First as Cross Country Returns to Action

The first UM-Dearborn athletic event in almost a year provided a first for the men's cross country program. Freshman Jorden Sowash became the first Wolverine runner to win a race as he crossed the finish line with a time of 24:33.19 in the Aquinas Shuffle held on the campus of Aquinas College on Saturday.   UM-Dearborn men's team would finish in second place in the 7.5k event right behind host Aquinas. Junior John Gaton was the second Wolverine to cross the finish as he came in 11th place with a time of 25:31.40.  UM-Dearborn would then claim spots 15-17 as senior Josh Mussen, junior Ricky Holbdy, and senior Josh Williams would round out the top- five finishers for the Wolverines.  The men's total time was 2:07.14 just two minutes behind Aquinas College. 
 
On the women's side, UM-Dearborn would finish fourth out of seven teams. Senior Victoria Hebda led the way for the Wolverines coming in 14th place with a time of 19:50.89 in the 5k event. Sophomore Chloe Jablonski finished in 15th place with a time of 20:03.89 while freshman Mary Bradshaw finished in 18th place with a time of 20:40.61.  Junior Rebecca Bradsher finished in 27th place while sophomore Kylie Callison finished in 29th place rounding out the top five Wolverine runners. The women's team finished with a time of 1:45:09 just one minute behind Siena Heights.  
 
Both cross country teams will be back in action Friday, March 19th, when UM-Dearborn is hosting the Wolverine Invitational at Willow Metropark in New Boston.
